Problem

Friends keep us company through the ups and downs of our lives and help us grow. As a child, making friends is practically second nature. But as we grow older, our fear and social anxiety can keep us from making new friends. How can we help people with social anxiety step out and make new friends?

Solution

BeFriendly is the new social app designed to help adults make new friends from the comfort of their smartphones. With BeFriendly, users are able to match with others with shared interests, send messages, and connect with their communities through local events. BeFriendly is the solution for adults to step out of their social anxiety by creating opportunities to create local friendships.

Competitive Analysis

I conducted a competitive analysis in order to understand the current market for adults who want to meet new people platonically. Doing this analysis allowed me to identify what works with other brands and pain points users face.

Hey! Vina

Hey! Vina is a matchmaking app tailored to women wanting to meet new friends and join communities of people like them. With Hey! Vina, users swipe to make new friends, take quizzes to find better matches,  and read lifestyle articles.

Bumble

Bumble BFF, a branch of Bumble dating, allows its users to customize their profiles and share their interests, connect their social media, and match with similar users in their area to make new friends.

Meetup

People have turned to Meetup to meet people, make friends, find support, grow a business, and explore their interests through thousands of events happening every day.

Focus Group

After conducting a focus group, I used the voices of potential users to identify 4 areas I would focus on designing for BeFriendly.

“I want to share a little about myself and hope to find people that can relate to me.”

“I've seen some weird profiles online and I like being able to pick and choose who gets to connect with me.”

“Hopefully, I can stay connected with someone I like. Maybe send messages or play games to get to know each other better. ”

"I love to find things going on around me. Meeting people in person is so much more fun and conversations flow better!"

User Flow

I developed the user flow to visualize the steps users would take to complete tasks. Doing this helped to plan the necessary screens for BeFriendly's MVP.

Design

The user flow guided me in creating lo-fi wireframes. By first making the lo-fi wireframes, I could quickly and efficiently adjust my designs early on.

User Feedback

I received user feedback on the usability of the app. Using the feedback, I made adjustments to the designs to improve the user experience.

Stylesheet

I styled the app using a monochromatic purple theme to invoke compassion and kindness being that the community is meant to be a safe space for all.

Interactive Prototype

I embedded the interactive prototype for the final screens of BeFriendly.
